Welcome to Geometry 1 -course!

In Finnish Active Learning, this course is a part of the Maths Schoolbag entirety. The course provides ideas for preschool and class teachers for active teaching and learning in mathematics. The courses could be considered as idea banks, which you can utilize in your teaching alongside with the topics and chapters are teaching to your pupils. You can implement the ideas alone with your group or by co-operating with other adults. The pupils should be thought of as active learners, who will learn new skills by playing and moving.

Course contents

First, we introduce the principles of active teaching and get to know different kinds of games and activities. Children learn social skills and topics from different school subjects through play. We give ideas on how to form pairs and groups. This course content consists of geometrical plane figures and solids. There are activity ideas on how to learn to identify and name them. There are also tips for games and activities. Most of the ideas contain premade, printable material. The course also contains different tools for assessment.

Designers of the courses of Finnish Active Learning

We are classroom teachers Teija Kauppi MAT (The Master of Arts in teaching) and Eija Leskinen MAT, a theatre pedagogue and nonfiction author. We have trained teachers, day school teachers and activity directors. Active learning has been a part of our teaching for our whole teaching careers. We have noticed that it motivates and inspires pupils to learn. Learning a new skill becomes easier when it is done by playing and moving. We hope that our course would inspire and encourage more teachers to try active teaching methods. For those, who already use active teaching as one of their techniques, we would like to share new ideas that make each school day even more enjoyable. The name of our company is Ideareppu / Finnish Active Learning.
